What is a fitness room in a human trafficking recovery program? A year ago, it was a dream. Today, it’s fresh paint, clean flooring, and a space that will soon be filled with the hum of machines, music, and movement—each sound representing healing in motion. On a cool spring Friday morning, standing together in the grass, our Prism Project team joined members of Impact100 Genesee County and dedicated volunteers to reflect on what this journey has brought to life. In that quiet moment, it became clear: this is so much more than a fitness room.
In 2024 we applied for a Health & Wellness Expansion grant through Impact100 Genesee County, hoping to create an on-site fitness room and renovate our tennis court. Movement has always been a vital part of trauma-informed healing, and we longed to offer this resource directly within our Safehouse. What we didn’t anticipate was the depth of relationship, mentorship, and empowerment that would come alongside the funding.
From the very beginning, Impact100 was about more than financial support. This process was intentional, relational, and rooted in long-term impact. Through mentorship, shared wisdom, and thoughtful advocacy, we were challenged to grow in capacity and clarity. Powerful conversations, encouragement, and belief in our mission strengthened not only our program, but our team. On Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024 Impact100 Genesee County held its inaugural Big Give Event at the Flint Farmers Market to decide the winning nonprofit and Prism Project was awarded the $57,000 grant.
We are profoundly inspired by the Impact100 community—a collective of women who truly see, support, and champion transformational work in Genesee County. Holding the inaugural grant is an honor we don’t take lightly. The investment made through this journey has already transformed the quality of care and services we provide to the girls we serve, and its impact will be felt for years to come.
We believe this journey has transformed all of us. For that, we are endlessly grateful.
